Disabling the Term, Disability

The first time I realized what the word disability actually means, I was shaken. As a person who is positioned in the world with multiple disabilities myself, this implications of this message struck me deeply. How has this message seeped into my psyche and impacted the way that I view myself? How has it impacted the way that I view others?

Writing through the Storm

My husband thinks I’m strange, but I love thunderstorms. I grew up in south Florida where thunderstorms were just a part of afternoon life, especially in the summertime. I love to curl up in a blanket and let the rolling thunder outside lull me to sleep like a lullaby. But that wasn’t the case when Hurricane Helene slammed into our small mountain community just two weeks ago.
